Refrigerator Ladies: ENIAC Programmer’s Project

“Did you know, 60 years ago, six young women programmed the ENIAC, the first all-electric programmable computers?”

Top, from left to right:  Kathy Kleiman (ENIAC Programmers historian), Jean Bartik, Marlyn Meltzer, Kay Antonelli; Bottom:  Betty Holberton

Most people didn’t know this until the mid 80s.  Women have been greatly misrepresented in the field of computing.  When these six  amazing women’s picture was found, they were reduced down to “refrigerator women” who were just posing in front of the computer to look pretty.

A friend of mine sent me this article summarizing their story:  http://abcnews.go.com/print?id=3951187
