Registraion… I GOT WHAT I WANTED!!!

November 19, 2009 at 5:55 pm (Class) ()

My Current Schedule…. for Spring

* Film History – I’m taking this class as a LCC specialty elective (film). I’ve heard nothing but good things about this professor.  Hopefully he lives up to the expectations :P

* Global Cinema -Same supposedly amazing professor, lol. None of the films in this class are more than a decade old (one of our films is District 9!). Win!

* Computing & Society -my LAST required computer science class (aside from the rest of my specialty electives).  The professor teaching it is the same professor that I had for my first CS class ever… and I absolutely loved him. Fun British accents always make a class more easy to pay attention, lol.   Coincidence for the whole first and now last thing? … well, so I purposefully signed up for this guy over two others, but the fact that he’s available to teach the class is pretty much fate. Though most of the CS professors here are pretty much a win ^_^

*Computer Graphics – CS Specialty Elective. Yes, I chose this class when I didn’t have to. This class is going to be SOOOOOooo hard! The overall average for the semester right now is around a 50. Thank goodness for the curves ^_^.

* Introduction to Museums – Completely irrelevant to my major, but it’s supposed to be a nice free elective. I’m taking it with a couple of friends. Please be an an easy A!!!

When the Unexpected is Pretty Much Expected

November 17, 2009 at 11:00 am (Life) (, )

Atlanta traffic.

Coming from a small city, it’s not unusual to see me zipping by on empty streets.  I like it.  I love the high speed-limits of open roads, the wind in my hair.

You’re not really always able to do that in Atlanta.  There’s traffic.  Everywhere.  So many stoplights.  So many stop-signs… and other cars!  Earlier today, John and I went to the store.  It was a routine grocery run.  There wasn’t anything special going on in the neighborhood.  Yet… though there was just a trickle of cars coming into Wal-mart, the line to get out of the parking lot was backed up around the entire length of the lot.  As it turned out, it was just a broken stop light.  Our lane wasn’t going anywhere and the traffic on the other side never stopped.

If you saw me 2 years ago in the same situation, an excited, college freshman with to much energy, faced with the agonizing wait of Atlanta traffic, you wouldn’t have felt sorry for me.  No, you would have laughed with milk coming out of your nose from the hilarity that was me freaking out about the completely halted traffic.

Two years later and what I would hope to call maturity on my side, these things are simply… expected.  Yaaay.

Wanting

November 12, 2009 at 3:34 am (Life)

Have you ever wanted something so badly and so passionately that deep down you just KNEW you were going to get it?  It’s that perfect job opportunity, that A on a homework or test grade, to win a certain bake off competition, an override into a class, that little yellow house with the white picket fence.  I want it all and I want it like nothing I’ve ever wanted before.  It’s that dash of complete certainty in a world of definite certainty that makes it feel so weird.  …

For the baking competition, I had never given losing a second thought until now.  I researched for the perfect recipe.  I ran it by friends and family to get opinions, I borrowed cooking appliances instead of improvising.  I am going to make the perfect red velvet cheesecake.

I recently had a tough mathematics homework where I was so certain that I knew exactly what I was doing.  I knew I would make a 100% … and I did.

Maybe that’s what happens when you give it your all.  There’s no running to get a good start.  There’s none of that awkward flapping of your wings.  You simply soar.  … now why can’t everything in life be that way?

House Hunting

November 11, 2009 at 7:26 am (Life) ()

The convenience of Georgia Tech housing is definite.  It’s so close to all your classes, you can run home in between classes.  The security is a definite plus, especially in the middle of Atlanta.  The RA’s are amazing and there’s a lot of community building events.  The internet is top quality.  We get over 100 TV channels.  The utilities cost is fixed.  There’s even already some furniture, maintenance people to help with brakes and leaks, and two fridges!  But do we really need all that?  That way of living gets expensive… and I mean really expensive.  I would recommend living on campus to any freshman or sophomore, but as you get older, it’s just not as necessary.   John and I did the math, and we can save over $2000 a semester by moving off campus (factoring in utilities, parking, internet, everything)… and we get to keep our cat ^_^.

John and I plan to move off campus starting in the summer and we found the perfect little house for rent.  It’s the perfect size, the perfect color, the perfect distance from campus.  I love it’s plants and flowers, the little white picket fence.  I desperately want it… but can’t get it just yet since we’re locked in by contract for GT housing.  …. hopefully we’ll find a way.

Only At Tech

November 4, 2009 at 6:25 pm (Life) ()

It’s a FMyLife site made just for Georgia Tech.  Yes, I spent the last 2 hours on that site instead of studying for my big Constructing Proofs test.  Whoever came up with the site is genius ^_^.  Gotta love Tech…. :P

http://www.onlyattech.net/

Just a dash of the hilarity that you would only understand if you went to Tech^_^:

- I witnessed a guy cross the street during busy traffic and upon asking him what he was thinking, he responded with, “Well, if I get hit by a Stinger, I get free tuition, and if I don’t live, my roommate gets free tuition!” Only at Tech.

- Everyone knows the Brittain Orange Challenge. You swipe oranges from Brittain and hurl them as hard as you can towards Bobby Dodd and try to make it over. You need to be running approximately 5 m/s before and the initial velocity of the orange must be approximately 30.3 m/s to succeed.Only at Tech

- We’re at a school where women are like parking spaces:  all the good ones are taken, and the rest… handicapped… Only at Tech

- Three weeks prior to the launch of Windows 7, if I told any of my friends that I was using Vista they would laugh at me an respond, “You’re STILL using Vista?” Only at Tech.

- Its 1:40 in the morning and a fire alarm went off. The majority of the people outside are fully dressed and some have their laptops. Like me who’s sending this in. Only at Tech

If I Could Make my Life Into a Sitcom…

November 3, 2009 at 3:49 pm (CoC related, Life) (, )

I was sitting in the student organizations room on one of the comfy couches talking to my friend Michael when he said something amazing.  What would it be like if we could turn our every day life into a sitcom?

You’d be surprised how many crazy things happen in the CoC.  Ajai alone is “an indian incarnation of an energy drink.”  Michael’s going to become president of the United States someday to pad his resume so he can work for Microsoft or Google.  We have a staff member who’s an ex-NFL player, one who’s an improv comedian, one who’s been on the Colbert report… there are so many interesting people here.

A story format could be interesting.  I’ve kind of tried it before… and it could be fun (To check out that effort of a story post about my life, click here).  I’d probably use code names though…. to protect everyone’s privacy.  The only down side is that I don’t really have access to a production studio (I mean, so many people do, right? *please pick up on the sarcasm *), so I’ll settle for a blog… for now :P .    I think I’m going to try it… so stay tuned!
