PHANTASMA 2009!!!

October 30, 2009 at 8:47 pm (CoC related, Student Organizations) (, , )

As the Women@CC Chair, I may be a little biased, but Phantasma was amazing!!  It may have been one of the best CoC student organizations events this semester.  So many people came, everyone seemed to be getting really involved with the contests and games and seemed to be having fun.

It started to rain, so we had to resort to our rain location in the Klaus Atrium.  This was actually our first choice of location, but because there was another event that didn’t end until 3p, we out it down as a back-up.  It’s a good thing we did because we couldn’t have had the entire event outside.  We only had an hour to set up, but so many people came to help out.  It all pulled together really well.

We had so many pther participating student organizations.  The face painting and caricatures was sponsored by Gourd, the Chubby Bunny food eating contest sponsored by UPE, the FIREwall did Musical Chairs, M@CC did the Trick or Treat Roulette game, and SAB and CISCO brought Trivia.  When I took the position of Women@CC Chair, one of my main goals was to bring the student organizations more together to bring more people together.  This event makes me happy ^_^.

There were so many events, contests, and interesting people at Phantasma this year… I took over 90 pictures!  To see more of my pictures, feel free to visit my Picasa page at http://picasaweb.google.com/touching.the.sky/20091030Phantasma?feat=directlink.

No Apple Picking Today… :’(

October 24, 2009 at 12:41 pm (Life) (, )

Soooooo… the Women@CC we’re supposed to go Apple Picking today for the apples for the Phantasma apple station, but several of us (yeah… including me) are really sick with the flu.  I wish I had gotten a flu shot.  They’re free to Georgia Tech Students at the Health Center, but I never got around to it.  Now I’ve gotten the flu twice this season.  Mental note to self…. go get a flu shot when I get better X_x.

Georgia Tech Wins Against Virginia Tech – Rushing the Field & Tearing Down Goalpost

October 18, 2009 at 5:31 am (Life) ()

We WON!!  Georgia Tech won against Virginia Tech 28-23, then rushed the field and tore down the goalpost.  It took a while but they eventually got it, it finally tore down after the 4 minute 15 mark of the second video.  The third video is our president George “Bud” Peterson accepting the goalpost as a present :P .

Our Homecoming Display!  The guys did such a great job putting this together.  They worked from 8:00p until almost 4 in the morning (event rules only gives them from 8:00p – 10:00am to work on it), and have some adorably awesome displays to show for their hard work.  Also, you may not be able to see it from these pictures, but there’s a picture of our interim CoC Dean Foley on the side of the train.  He’s known for loving trains ^_^.

Two of our guys participated in the Clown Relay where they not only had to wear clown suits (shoes, nose, and all), but go through obstacles and do challenges such as hoola hooping, juggling, jump-roping and more.  (Second pic = me happy for homecoming ^_^)

We won our division of The Great Clown Car Act!!  One team we watched fit almost 20 girls in their 6ft x 4ft x 4ft box!  At least they weren’t in our division :P !  We fit 12 with plenty of room to spare, but not enough volunteers.  However, the ones that did participate were wonderful and got in with amazing quickness so that we took home 1st place in our category!

FIGHT! WIN! DRINK! GET NAKED!

October 14, 2009 at 7:52 am (Life) ()

Lol, no worries.  It’s one of the Football fan cheers :P

This Saturday will take on #4 Virginia Tech in Football for our Homecoming game.  This is pretty much one of the biggest games for the rest of our season.  If we beat them, we can pretty much coast the rest of the time (easy wins) and possibly be number one in the ACC!

Some links John sent me today.  They’re pretty much epic.  You need to read them :P   (I love these writers; they’re awesome!!):

GT Team Buzz 2009

Some of the lovely ladies of Women@CC participated in Team Buzz this year!  An annual Georgia Tech wide volunteer project for the city of Atlanta, Team Buzz is a great opportunity to get together with the rest of the college to give back to the city of Atlanta.  Almost 2000 Georgia Tech students participated in the event this year!

This year, the College of Computing Women@CC had eight volunteers:  Pushkara Chaganti, Ka Young Kim, Sravya Kotte, Ugochi Ofoha, Candis Pham, Madhuri Tondepu, Haritha Viravalli, and Yonnie Yang.  We participated in the Eastlake project cleaning a public park, pulling weeds, and mulching.  It was a lot of fun and residents of Atlanta even came out of their nearby stores to thank us ^_^.

Yay For Fall Break!

October 5, 2009 at 2:21 am (Class, Life) ()

I so grateful Tech gives us a Fall Break.  Even if it’s just two extra days, it really helps with all the homework pile-up and tests coming up and projects to work on and presentations to perfect.  Plus, being gone since Tuesday afternoon is a lot to make up and study on your own.  I absolutely love the Grace Hopper Conference and have no regrets about going… but wow… that hw/study pile IS kind of scary.  Where. To. Start X_x :P
