The New Chinese Place in Town – New Dragon

August 30, 2009 at 1:38 pm (Life) ()

Well, maybe not new, but we got new menu brochures under our apartment doors today from New Dragon :P .  John and I hadn’t ordered out for Chinese in so long, we thought we might try it.  The menu looked amazing.  They had so much different foods on that thing!  I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many items on a fast food menu before, lol.  In any case, we ended up ordering 3 appetizers:  dumplings, the pu pu plate (lol), and fried wontons.  It was pretty good!  However, it wasn’t really up to expectations.  The fried wontons barely had any filling and the dumplings needed some salt.  It was still delicous though… I give it a 6.5 out of 10 :) .  Now Mongolian Beef from Lucky Budda… THAT’S a def. 10/must try sometime :D

District 9

August 29, 2009 at 10:29 am (Life, Misc.) (, )

John and I went to see District 9 in the theater today.  Being a busy, broke college student, it’s nice being able to go see a movie every once in a while (having a fiance who can pay for the movie tickets is nice too, lol :P jk jk).  Anyhoo, the movie was pretty awesome.  Honestly, I didn’t think much of it when first watching the commercials, but John had really REALLY been wanting to see it.  The commercials and website made it look very… documentary-style, but the movie turned out to be just the right balance between documentary and action movie.  Also, there are some pretty cool story spins.  I wasn’t completely fond of the end, but it was kind of cute :) .

Key Crazinness

August 28, 2009 at 4:38 am (Life, Misc.) ()

When I came home last night (around 10-ish), I found I couldn’t get into my apartment. The key had always taken a little extra wiggling before, but now the key would just not turn!

As it turned out, one of my roommates lost her key to the apartment (the key to the apartment and the key to your room are different) and housing had changed the locks.  The housing office was closed, so I couldn’t just go get my new key so I stood there knocking hopeing at least one of my five roommates were home.  After a while, I ended up calling one of them.  It turns out that they didn’t answer the door because they were to immersed watching an episode of Supernatural, lol.

Supernatural’s just that awesome :P .  If you haven’t seen it, I’d definetely recomment it… espescially before Season 5 premieres September 10 at 9pm on the CW!!!!!

CS 1100- Scavenger Hunt

August 27, 2009 at 8:18 am (Class, CoC related, Work)

One of my responsibilities as a College of Computing mentor is to help out with the freshman leap class CS 1100 and CM GT 1000.   Today, they’re having a scavenger hunt kind of thing.  All of the mentors are stationed at various buildings around campus.  The freshman have the list of buildings and a map and they have one hour (3p-4p)  to try and find us (we have big colorful balloons so I don’t see how they can miss us ^_^).   If they have all of there members present, we mentors give them a signed note to award a certain amout of points.  The group with the most points at the end wins a free dinner!  As of now it’s 3:22p and I’ve only had one group come in.  My girls need to pick it up!  jk jk

Wingnuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuts!!!

August 25, 2009 at 3:53 pm (Life) ()

So this year John and I decided not to get a meal plan.  I learned to cook by watching my mom cook… and proud of it :P .  Don’t get me wrong, … a meal plan definitely has it’s high points!  If your idea of cooking is pouring milk and cereal into a bowl or you just absolutely cannot cook, you should probably get a meal plan.  If your busier than me and only have time to run into Woody’s for a quick bite before you sprint to Chemistry lab, more power to ya.  It just wasn’t for me.

My freshman year, I got the 10 meals per week.  As a freshman, that was an awesome meal plan to have.  There was lunch and dinner and then a few meals that allowed room for me to cook and go out with friends.  I never really could use all 10 meals a week though.  My second year I switched to 75 meals total.  That was better in terms of trying to get my money’s worth (it averages out to $5-$7 a meal using a meal plan!!… I just don’t eat enough to make it worth it), but I still ended up with extra meals at the end.

Now, going into my third year and kind of low on finances, I just figured it would be cheaper (and tastier) to just cook my own meals.  I would definitely recommend the meal plans to newer students (being that freshman experience students are required to buy a meal plan is besides the point), but after a couple of years of basically the same kinds of stuff, it was time to break away.  Besides… I don’t mean to brag but…. John and I are EXCELLENT cooks ;P… my mom’s recipe’s, his mom’s recipe, our own creations… YUM.

However, sometimes it’s just nice to go out to eat (now all these crazy college students who think fast food and buying food is the way to go, you’re crazy).  Every once in a while, John treats me to a nice meal… Wingnuts is a nice campus meal, lol.  The food’s delicious, it’s close to campus, and the delivery guys has come to know and like us (not because we eat there to much… he’s just cool like that).   Today John and I decided to celebrate overcoming financial obstacles by buying Wingnuts for the first time since early summer semester…. It was aMAAAAAAAAAzing!  :P

Software Wishes

August 23, 2009 at 1:05 pm (Class) ()

One of my new classes this semester is LCC 2730 – Constructing the Moving Image.  Right now, we’re learning the basics of Autodesk Maya, a 3D rendering software.  Pixar has used this software in making animated films such as Shrek and Monsters verses Aliens.  I think I’m in love <3 <3 ^_^ <3 <3.

I look around online and the price range for Autodesk Maya was somewhere between $2000 and $4000!!

I wish I had money :P

GT and Financial Aid… Can’t Live With it… but Can’t Live Without it…

August 21, 2009 at 2:26 pm (Life) ()

Don’t get me wrong… the Georgia Tech Financial Aid office is doing a great job.  They’re very supportive and work hard.  … it’s just so hard being a financially broke out-of-state student.   For in-state students, at least they have HOPE (the scholarship, not necessarily the feeling :P ).  Us out-of students compete so hard with each other to get admitted, and then there’s that teeny tiny problem with having to pay so much to be here.  Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade my experiences here for anything.  Coming here has such a huge effect on who I am today, who I have today, and how and why I do the things I do.  It’s just… financial aid, PLEASE give me a break!!!

The ParentPLUS loan never went through because of mistakes my parents made and I ended up having to borrow money from my future in-laws.  I know they just want to help and are more than happy to… I just didn’t want to have to ask.  Call it my crazy asianness or my independant side if you want, but I just don’t like feeling so helpless.

The First Days of Classes

August 19, 2009 at 12:24 pm (Life)

Doesn’t look to bad.  After I had finally gotten all of my classes finally on the schedule (Phase II registration can be so stressful :S), life got a little bit better.  I ended up taking EAS1601, LCC2730, LCC3314, CS1050, and CS2340.   The first few days are always the easiest since some people are still registering in Phase II. … and the lab and recitation is going to be time consuming.  It doesn’t look to bad.   Although, I’ve already got hw… *sighs*

Move In- To Ache or Not to Ache

August 17, 2009 at 2:20 am (Life)

Move-in day, one of the busiest and most physically painful days (aside from athletics) that tech has to offer.  jk jk.

Because I had stored a lot of my stuff in John’s apartmnt and at John’s house in NC (I couldn’t really take it all to Spain with me and taking it all the way to AR is just absurd), I got to join in with the marvelous festivities (:P).  In addition, we helped our friends Ryan and JoAnn (… kind of… John helped move her furniture :D ) move in too.  Besides, moving things from the truck (or John’s 3 story apartment) to my 3 story apartment was a looooot of walking ^_^.  I think I’m actually sore :P

Asheville

August 14, 2009 at 3:34 pm (Life)

I love going to visit John’s family and home town.  It’s a little crazy, but aMAzing.  It’s woodsy, spacious, and has all the amenities of a big city.  The people are nice and there’s always something to do.

This time we took our friends Ryan and Michael with us for the week.   Some of John’s closest friends were even in town!  It was a great trip.  …and Skybo and Molly are still the cutest cats ever :P
