Día 15: Granada… y San Jose, Cabo de Gata!! ^_^
June 5, 2009 at 1:14 pm (Studying Abroad- Spain)
(1) Castillo de La Calahorra

“This characteristic fortress, built in the early 16th century, is constructed around a magnificent Renaissance-style palace, its style being a great challenge at the time as the later Medieval style of building still prevailed in Spain. Its promoter, Don Rodrigo de Mendoza, brought back from Italy the plans for the patio and the sketches for the sculptures that were to decorate it, and insisted that the architect copied them down to the last detail. For the architectural and decorative elements on the upper floor he ordered Carrara marble sculptures directly from Italian workshops. Set against the background of the snow-capped peaks of the sierra, the castle is one of the most beautiful sights in the whole of Granada province.”
(2) San Jose, Cabo de Gata
We got in San Jose pretty late… so we didn’t really get to do much, but our hostel is AWESOME. Sarah decided to room with Laura, so I was put with a random roommate, Lindsey. She’s pretty cool though. She’s very interesting. Our room though… so nice. If it weren’t for it being old and kind of dirty, you would have thought it was a nice hotel. We had our own beds, a cable TV, a balcony, a nice bathroom, pretty decorations, and free breakfast in the morning (I hope it’s good!). Very cool.
