Día 10: Granada… a Lazy Sunday, FB, and Thoughts on Going to Church
May 31, 2009 at 6:41 pm (Studying Abroad- Spain)
(1) Laura and Vampire Guy
The guy Laura was making out with yesterday is apparently a very rough kisser. She came to lunch this morning with pink cheeks complaining that he had bit her a few times purposefully. He then continued to follow her after she tried to leave him, texted her a million times, and tried to follow her into the apartment, but didn’t because she ended up having to shove him outside while she locked the gate. Persistent bastard. I dunno… I think she got what she deserved. If she didn’t want him to be interested, she shouldn’t have been all over him after only knowing him for maybe 30 minutes. *rolls eyes *
(2) Its So Pretty Here
I love how Granada has so many pretty plazas and parks all over the place. Sure there are tons of little shops and multi level buildings… it’s a busy big city. It’s just so nice to see a big city take the time to stop and smell the roses… dedicate whole big areas to lush, beautiful places full of statues, fountains, palm trees, roses, and more. Muy bonita.
Sarah and I decided to go to a park today to study, chill, and just get a tan. It was an amazingly peaceful and relaxing afternoon.
(3) Facebook is Being So Completely Lame
It’s being SUPER slow, and won’t load everything, and takes forever, and erases results, and and and … what’s the fluke??? What’s randomly going on???
(4) “What Kind of Ethnicity Should You be Dating?”

Perfecto. I love my John <333 ;P
(5) More Helado? Hell Yes!!!
Today I had tarde de queso y roché (Cheesecake with blueberry drizzle and the Roché chocolate candies). Amazing. ^_^
(6) Thoughts on Going to Church
I don’t go to church regularly … and I’m okay with that. I dunno, it’s just that… when people tell me “Oh, you don’t go to church… you’re not a real Christian.” I mean… what is that??? Just because my view on going to church is different than their view is doesn’t mean I’m not a good Christian. To me, it’s not about how much you worship God. It’s how much you show you’re a good son or daughter. It’s showing your heavenly father how much you love him by making him proud… being a good person. You don’t worship your father… you love him. There are so many people who go and fall asleep… embrace people in church and then turn their backs on them in the streets. Going to church is a good thing… don’t get me wrong… but that doesn’t necessarily make you a good Christian. Being a good person and living the life He would be proud of and loving Him is being a good Christian.
(7) Someone Ate my Dinner!
So apparently Yaquelin doesn’t cook us lunch or dinner on Sundays?? I dunno. The other kids say that she doesn’t usually make them anything… they just get it themselves on Domingo, but she’s supposed to leave us something. According to Laura, Yaquelin said that she left us some Greek lasagna for lunch (which we ate… Greek TV Dinner…. horrible.. eck), and some chicken dish for dinner. Our chicken was no where to be found. Jose went around asking everyone, and everyone denied it. Sarah and I ate toast and yogurt for dinner…

Día 9: Granada… More Shopping, Concert? no, y Thoughts on Alcohol
May 30, 2009 at 10:50 pm (Studying Abroad- Spain)
(1) Finally! A Cheap Clothing Store in Europe
A lot of places right around we live have shirts on average at 30 euros! Shoes… 50! So Sarah and I went to the store this morning and we found this little clothing store with really cheap clothes! It was kind of weird because they didn’t have more than one of anything (except for shoes) and there were no sizes on most of the clothing. It almost reminds of a Salvation Army type of thing… but not quite. I bought two entire outfits for less than 30 Euros… awesomeness.

(2) Festival International Dance Granada 2009 … or Not
Jose had talked us (me, Sarah, Laura, Samantha, and Shannon) into paying 20 Euros to go to a big 12 hour outside music festival (it was supposed to last from 6p to 6am) where a bunch of the big DJ’s were supposed to come and it would have a dance stage and booths and such. Jose was so excited. He wanted to leave 3 hours early to reserve our spot so we could be close to the stage. We told him we didn’t want to stand around for the long, so we settled for one hour early (in actuality, we didn’t leave until 30 minutes after, lol). When we got there at around 6:45p, there was almost absolutely no one there. It was this huge fenced off area with music coming from somewhere in the distance. We didn’t understand completely (even Jose was somehow confused), but the gaurds said something about how at a certain time, they were going to lock the gates and no one could get out until 4 im the morning!! We were just like… aaaa no, and said we’d come back later.
Outside, we met these 5 guys who we thought knew Jose. However, we later found out that they were just random people who just ended up hanging out with us. Anyhoo, as usual, Laura wanted some alcohol, so we ended up going to a nearby grocery store to get rum and coke. (We also bought some plastic cups b/c apparently you’re not allowed to bring that many extra people home, so I guess they wanted to drink in a lot or plaza or something) We checked out and went outside only to find that it was pouring rain.

(3) Under the Bridge
They still wanted to drink and we couldn’t just go back to the apartment (*rolls eyes *), so we ended up running around in the rain looking for shelter. We found two places, but they were so crowded, we ended up under a big overhead bridge where there had to be at least 50 other people there… all drinking and singing… completely loco.
Within 20 minutes of drinking their rum and coke (I had some coke… even though I hate soda), Sam, Shannon, and Laura were making out with three of the guys we had randomly met. It was disgusting how physical they were… and Sam has a boyfriend back in the states! If I knew how to find my way home, I would have left sooner. I was wet, cold, and miserable… and I missed my John. We were under that bridge until almost 11p.
(4) Bitches and Bastards
So Shannon and I were just talking on the balcony when out of the blue she said, “So like, is Laura just a Bitch?” So how do you respond to that??? Me: “Yeah…. youngest of 5, spoiled rotten, alcoholic. She’s a bitch.”
At the supermarket… me, Shannon, Sam, 3 random guys we hadn’t known for more than 15 minutes. Random guy: “Como se dice (How do you say __) perra?” We were just like… “bitch??” Random guys: “Laura es a bitch.” We laughed.
Under the bridge while Laura, Sam, Shannon, and 3 random guys were making out: Joe (one of the guys we met who was actually pretty cool… he didn’t really like 3 of the other guys, but was friends with the other one): “What es bitch for guys?” Me and Sarah: “Bastards?” Joe: “Yeah… (he points to the 3 guys)… they are bastads… muchos.” I hope he didn’t mean ‘players’ :S… though they were probably that too.
(5) Thoughts on Alcohol
I’m not a big drinker. I mean, I’ll drink a glass of wine every once in a while, but that’s about it. I think it’s stupid to go to a party for the sole reason of getting wasted. There are some drinks that taste pretty good… but most of them are disgusting. I think that’s one of the reason why I really don’t like Laura. At all hours of the day, she wants to get wasted.. it’s alcohol this, alcohol that. The way she carries on… she’s addicted. It’s pathetic. Then there’s other people who really don’t want the drink, but when people offer it, they take it anyway so not to “look bad.” What’s the big deal? If I wanted to act stupid, I’d just do it. Drinking just to get drunk is retarded. … and if she complains about a hangover again, I swear… I’m going to slap her.

Día 8: En Granada… Yay For Skype! … La Alhambra, Shopping with Sarah, y Sam’s Converion Trouble
May 29, 2009 at 9:13 pm (Studying Abroad- Spain)
(1) Skype Saved my Life
For some reason, the video chat on my AIM randomly stopped working. I really wanted to talk to my John via video though… so we found Skype and installed it last night. Yay!!! All is good again. ^_^
(2) My Last Review Class Before the Placement Exam
I’m really not concerned about the placement exam on Monday. I’m a level 1 and proud of it
. Some people though are crazy stressing over it. Their Universities won’t grant them credit unless they place in to a certain level. Craziness. I dunno. I’m just all about trying to stress as little as possible and have fun. We’ll see
(3) La Alhambra

Picture 1: Our amaAAAzing tour-guide… he had the COOLest British accent… for a native of Spain, lol

The Alhambra was soooo pretty… and the art had so much meaning and story-line behind it <3
(4) Shopping With Sarah
Haha, so on the way to the Alhambra, there are a TON of little Arabic shops and booths along the side of the road. They had a bunch of really cool stuff, so Sarah and I made a wish list of the things we wanted.
Stuff Sarah and I saw that we want to buy before we leave (though we probably shouldn’t, lol): Pillows, Poofs, Embroidered Tapestries, Box thing, Mirror, Jingle Belt thing, Belly- dancing outfit, Sarah’s Hookha, Paintings, Scarves, Decorated Hand Fan
We also stopped by and got some more helado
heehee. Ice cream is so good! Especially here. I guess because it’s so much hotter here, there are a lot of ice cream places. There’s also a lot of different ice cream flavors. For example, today, I got stracciatella and huevo kinder. ^_^ YUM. I’m going to be SO broke by the time I get back to the states, lol.
(5) Gotta be Careful With Those Outlets…
Wow… so Sam (Samantha, one of the very American roommates) just blow out her last curling iron. Her and Shannon have gone through that curing iron, two straighteners and a blow dryer. No bueno.
It was so funny. We were all eating dinner while Shannon and Sam were getting ready to go out and all of a sudden we all start smelling smoke. Then, we hear this huge comotion coming from there room. Sam (who has brown hair long enough to sit on) had melted plastic from her curling iron all stuck in her hair. The metel part of her curling iron was charred and burnt. Those americano/espanol conversions just don’t work so good! Gotta be careful…

Día 7: Granada… Crazy Night Life y… Mi Espanol es MUUUYYY Poco…
May 28, 2009 at 11:39 am (Studying Abroad- Spain)
Last Night:
(1) Manchester United vs. Barcelona
The streets… were CRAZY. We had gone to a bar to meet up with some of Jose’s friends and there were like, 30 people with fold out chairs all crowded around a huge TV that had been moved to outside. People were over flowing into the streets to watch. The crowd went wild when Barce scored the first goal. Then, when they scored the second, people knew the game was over and the rejoicing could be heard all around. It was craziness ;P. As we left, people were yelling, dogs were barking, trash cans were being banged around, and water was being thrown from window at the people down below. The Spanish SWAT eventually had to come out and shoot rubber shots at people. My friend Jeff got shot in the leg! … but he was fine. We were already at the club ^_^.
(2) Granada 10

Picture 1 From left to Right: Jose, me, Laura, Shannon, Sam, Sarah

(3) So Do Personal Bubbles Not Exists Around Here???
I swear… there is no personal space around here. It’s so weird. Spaniards don’t move to avoid you when walking in the streets, they grab your entire waste to pull you somewhere (instead of your hand)… OMG… en Granada 10 last night, I was walking to the bathroom and some guy just grabbed my hand and was like “muy bonita, venido conmigo” (pretty lady, come with me). I was just like, “no, no” and tried to keep walking. THEN, another guy, when we were leaving to go home, grabbed my shoulders saying “muy bonita” tambian. That was weird. ALSO, my new roommates Shannon and Samantha wanted all of us to be in a picture with the bartenders/proffestional dancers, so when posing for the picture, one of then grabbed my waist in the pic… I need to find out how to say “aaaa.. only my boyfriend holds me there, ” ;P.
(4) He’s Not Gay… He’s Just European ;P
Jose, one of the Spanish roommates, was so funny at the club. I swear he could dance better than most girls!… moving his hips around and jumping all over the place, drinking lots of mixed drinks and cocktails. A couple of his favorite songs were by Beyonce, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga. In the states, people might have looked at him differently. But no worries, he’s not gay… just European ;P.
Today:
(1) Cultural Activities
I figured out what I wanted to do. Mountain Biking and Horseback Riding. It’s going to be amMMAAAAAAAAzing =D.
(2) Language Exchange at a Bar y Tapas … or Not
Yeah, so originally, I was going to go to a bar with most of the other API kids to hang out and talk to Spaniards and such… but I didn’t. I don’t know. Do you remember in a previous post when I went on and on about how much this one girl annoyed me? Yeah… well… I just couldn’t put up with her anymore today. I just couldn’t. I therefore decided to leave her slow ass (with Sarah hanging behind to talk to her) and went to the apartment on my own. So instead of going to the bar in a pointless attempt to socialize with people I’ll probably never really talk to again (except Sarah, she’s still one of my closest friends… although I can’t see why she’s friends with the other girl), I spent my time IM-ing with my sweetheart (who always manages to make me smile) and catching up on things I want to do (i.e.– write this blog post =D).

Día 6: En Granada y Lot of New Things to Try y … Can They Get Any More Stereotypical Americano??
May 27, 2009 at 1:49 pm (Studying Abroad- Spain)
(1) Not Getting Lost Rocks
I think we’re finally getting used to the streets in Granada. Before, we would get lost… constantly pull out our maps and ask directions from random people on the streets. Now, knowing where we’re going makes it feel so much more homey… though I’m still incredibly homesick.
(2) Weird Hammering Noise
Every morning so far, Sarah and I have woken up around 7 in the morning to a weird hammering noise. I mean… I guess it’s construction, but it’s only one hammer, but incredible persistent. There are breaks to pick up more nails, or to switch hands, but it goes on for hours. We don’t plan on getting out of bed until about 9:30… so it’s incredible annoying. The thing is though, we have no idea where it’s coming from. I guess it’s from some apartment upstairs, but we looked all over the outside and we can’t figure out where it could be coming from. These walls are so thin… (*sighs *)
(3) Mountain Biking, Horse Back Riding, Scuba Diving, Wine Tasting, Flamenco, or Canoeing?
The University of Granada offers a lot of extra curricular activities (at a cost of course). I don’t know… I want to make the most of my time here in Spain! And I want to do everything!… but I don’t have the money. We’ll see though… I’m still trying to decide on what to do. …
(4) Dos Nuevos Compañeros de Cuarto Americanos (2 New American Roommates)
Tall, long hair, thin, long eye lashes, completely outgoing… they’re pretty much the most stereotypical two Americans-that-go-to-Europe-and-have-a-good-time girls you will ever meet. The OMGs, eww it’s a pigeon, gets all the boys… yeah… it happens. Don’t get me wrong… Shannon and Samantha are really nice. It’s just so amusing. ;P
(5) Rose’s Reference Letter
My friend Rose from GT asked me, as the president of the Women@CC) to write a reference letter for her. She’s interviewing for a graphic designing internship soon. It just made me feel so special though that she would ask me for one. I don’t know… I guess I’ve just been feeling un-loved and under-appreciated lately… I’m just depressed a lot overall. I guess it comes with leaving the country for a while. Anyhoo, to have Rose ask me to write her letter made me feel special again. It’s a good feeling. I hope she gets the job! ^_^

Día 4 y 5: Adios Madrid, Bonita Toledo, y Hooooolaaaaaa Granada!
May 26, 2009 at 7:14 pm (Studying Abroad- Spain)
*SQUEEEEE * Mi gusta Granada. …. so much better that Madrid. I don’t know. I guess I’m just not a big city girl. The craziness, lack of greenery, pollution, weird and crazy people. It’s just not for me. Mainly the only reason I’m able to live in Atlanta is because Georgia Tech really is it’s own little community. I mean, I know it’s in the heart of Atlanta, but it doesn’t always feel so busy and crowded. It’s nice. Madrid… it’s a nice tourist place, but I could never live there. Toledo: beautiful, yet old. Granada: beautimous. I’m so glad the program is here!!!!!
Stuff in between the last post and this one:
(1) Bus Rides
Boring. Boring boring boring. Sarah and I watched an episode of Supernatural for the first hour (she’s only in the first season, but I don’t mind re-watching. I <3 SUPERNATURAL!!! ^_^) Then in the second part (2 hours), break (45 minutes), and half of the third part of the ride (1 hours), I just ended up talking to Jeff the entire time while Sarah and maybe everyone else on the bus slept. I can’t sleep on buses. I get motion sickness on really long, curvy rides >.<.
(2) Girls Suck
I could talk to Jeff SOOOOO much easier than trying to talk to the 23 other girls with API. Jeff, Dary, Chris, and Evan… they’re cool. Talking to them, there’s no attention whores… no high pitched “yeah yeah” or “like ummmm.. like” or “omg omg omg”… no drama, gossip, pointless fluff. I don’t know. I’ve always gotten along better with guys. That’s really ironic though since I’m the president of a Women’s organization ;P…
(3) Toledo

Toledo is MUY bonito!!!!!

Toledo is so pretty!
(4) The Apartmencia
We have internet!!!!!! Woot woot! I’m so excited. I get to talk to my sweetheart without having to search for an internet cafe and go regularly or make John wake up at 8 in the morning to be able to talk. …and it’s not bad internet either… I mean, it’s not GT but it’s pretty decent.
As for the apartment itself, I’m actually surprised by how much we get! Sarah’s and my room (we’re roommates) is bigger than our freshman dorm rooms at GT… and bigger than our apartments at GT now actually too! We get a huge wardrobe, a kitchen, our own bathroom, a small living room area, and access to another living room on our floor. For meals, we go upstairs to eat with the rest of the apartment. Breakfast is on our own. There are 5 other Spaniards that live with us (Jose, Fernando, and Estella live on our floor while Teresa and Cana live upstairs), Laura: Sarah’s friend, and two more Americans that are supposed to join us later. This is so cool ^_^.
Yaquelin, our land lady, is really sweet. She only speaks Spanish though, so it’s kind of hard for me to communicate with her. She thinks I’m really shy though (since I don’t talk much… when it’s mainly b/c I don’t know how to speak Spanish), so she would take my arm everywhere she went trying to get me more comfortable with the place.
Random Quirks About the Apartment:
(I) To flush the toilet, you push a button. You don’t pull it up like at the hotel, but it’s the same weird concept.
(II) Lunch is at 2:30p and dinner is at 9:30p. I’m going to be so hungry!!
(III) The shower nosel doesn’t hang on the wall. You have to hold it up or move it around to wash yourself. It’s a small stand up shower, but at least we get an opaque curtain this time! ^_^
(IV) There aren’t locks on the bedroom doors… or bathroom doors actually. I don’t know… maybe it’s just an American thing, but there are times I don’t want people coming in my room… especially people I may not know as well :S.
(V) The stores around here are all very small and line the narrow streets. If you go in a store, they usually just EXPECT you to buy something… because you can see most of their merchandise from the window (especially food places… the menus are outside before you go in to order).
(VI) People don’t pick up after their dogs. Animal wastes are just on the ground… in the streets. Be careful where you step.
On to Stuff About Today:
(1) Granada Tour
Tour of Granada. Cool. I <3 Granada ^_^.
(2) Lunch
Beef stew y papas fritas. Yum. It’s kinda funny… I still can’t get over the fact that they don’t eat lunch until 2:30p here. … and then they don’t eat dinner until 9:30p. … and the clubs don’t close until 7a.m. These people are crazy. When do they sleep????
(3) Review Classes por Espanol
We just started our Spanish review classes today. It’s for the rest of the week (until Friday) from 5:00p-7:30p… late class. Apparently though, most classes in Spain are late … hmm. I actually really like my review class. There are only four of us in the beginner’s level class, so at least now I don’t feel so lost. The professor only talks to us in Spanish, so it’s kind of funny to have to act things out every once in a while to ask questions.
(4) Making New Friends
You wouldn’t believe how much easier it is to make friends when your NOT sick and depressed all the time. Lol. People are actually more willing to come near you when you’re now coughing up a storm ;P
(5) Dinner
So tonight we had a the first thing I’ve never in the states… and all it was was a ham and cheese fried patty, lol. Very Espanol. Haha. It was good though. And then we had vegetables. Yum. It was pretty funny… I was just me, Sarah, Laura, Jose, and Fernando. Laura was trying to get them to go to the bar (like she does with everybody), and they were just like… no no no… it was fun. I think it was the first time I could actually join in a conversation and actually make sense, haha. (They speak some English, but hey encourage us to only talk en espanol.) That made it so much more fun.
(6) Trying to Learn to Like This Girl, but Failing
Chubby want-a-be blonde bimbo, never looks at me or responds to my questions or comments, nose in the air, stereotypical sorority bitch, drinks 24/7, is never satisfied with weekend trips, super picky, will repeat things over and over again until you comply, even if you’ve said no, purposefully walks heavy so her triple D’s (that are practiacally hanging out of her shirt) bounce with every step, thinnks she can fit in as a Spaniard and complains like no other when Spaniards can tall right off the bat she’s American when she has THE WORST American accent I’ve ever heard…. okay… I just needed to rant for a little bit. I’m trying to like her for Sarah’s (Wats) sake because Sarah’s one of my closest friends from GT and she really likes this girl (for who knows why) but EEEHHHHAAAAHHH!!! Grrr…
(7) SARAH STOLE MY TOWEL!!!
OMG… lol… so we finally got our Towels from Yaquelin, and I TOTALLY had the pretty towel… and Sarah just ran over and stole it right out of my hands!!! Haha. How RUDE Sarah. ;P
(8) Night Time Out and About
Jose and Fernando wouldn’t give in to Laura’s requests to go drinking with her, so we ended up walking around the area just looking for something fun to do. We went into a few bars, but after muchos stares from the people already there, we kept looking. Eventually we ended up at a small bar (we didn’t realize until later that it was actually right outside our apartment, lol) to drink beers and talk and such. I usually despise beer. It tastes and smells like feet. However, Sarah had me try this Belgium Raspberry one…Tillerman Framboise… it just tasted like Raspberry sprite, but better, lol. Not bad ^_^.

Day #3: Madrid- Being Sick Sucks, Long Bus Ride, Dead People, Being Sick Sucks
May 24, 2009 at 3:03 pm (Studying Abroad- Spain)
I am now officially tired of Madrid. I’m ready to meet my host family in Granada and settle in for the semester. I don’t know. Madrid is nice and all, but I’m so sick of being a tourist here. I’m tired sick, and grumpy all the time… and I’m just praying Granada will be better, b/c all I want to do right now is go home. Is that bad? … I know that’s pretty bad… I’ve only been here for a few days…
Yeah… so I’m pretty pessimistic right now. I feel sick all over, d*^% PMSing, I’m filled with meds, overall feeling depressed and alone no matter how many people are around, I can’t focus, I can’t sleep… being sick sucks.
Okay, so I’m ranting… but it’s almost making me feel better. At least the accordion player outside my window is playing something happy. The sad trumpet player earlier was just depressing.
Anyhoo, so today.
(1) De Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo del Excorial
One hour bus ride there to el Excorial, one hour bus ride back. There, we visited the Royal Monestary of San Lorenzo del Escorial. I actually didn’t know anything about the place (I was to lazy and tired to look it up), so once inside, I was basically just like “Ooooo… another pretty building.” … thinking it was like the Real Palacio or something ;P. Then, we went down a tiny staircase with LOTS of decorations and sculptures and paintings only to end up in a big room surrounded by the coffins (and bodies) of some dead kings of Spain. After that we went to see a bunch of dead babies… it was sad. Then there was Maria Theresa (the only famous one I remember) and some more nobility. … lots of Greek lettering, seals, and art.
Then, we got in trouble for almost getting left behind again… only there were a clear majority of us left. Our API guides just kind of LEFT us. It was sad.

Day #2- Madrid: Webcams Save my Life, Yummy Food, and of Course, my Day
May 23, 2009 at 7:01 pm (Studying Abroad- Spain)
After Writing last Night’s Post…(stuff from last night)
(1) Madrid Night Life Can be Kinda Weird, but Ridiculously Funny at the Same Time
A man dressed up as a decorated goat just looking at passing people, a statue jumping out at us, a guy’s head being completely still and then screaming at us as we walked by. … it was an interesting night ^_^. We basically just walked around… random exploring.

(2) I Got to Talk to my Sweetheart on a Webcam!!!
I miss that kid so much… I really wish he were here with me right now. At least last night I found out we get free internet at our hotel!! Thank goodness for the internet. I spent quite a while talking to John through IM. Then my friend Micheal was there also, so John used Micheal’s computer to web-chat! John says he’s going to buy a web cam today. I don’t think I’ve been happier this entire trip. ^_^
And on to Today:
(1) Mueso de Prado (Prado Museum)
I like museums and all (even though this was my first actual museum… >.<), but WTF… I’ve never seen so much nudity in my entire life! I mean… looking through a Playboy makes you a perv in most instances (not that I’ve flipped through any Playboys) while nude paintings in museums are considered beautiful… exquisite art that always holds some deeper meaning (to some people). Eh… what evs…. is was still pretty cool. I really liked Goya’s paintings. They seemed to hold more hidden and diverse meanings and such.
(2) Getting Left Behind
So after our official tour o de Museo de Prado, about 12 of us (out of about 24) went to the bathroom. About 8 of us were left behind. (We found out later that the tour leaders counted us and was certain that we were all there, and so they just left) At first, it was just me and Amanda. Then, we caught up to a group of 4. Amanda and another girl ran off, and we were 4. We tried to keep up with the group (who was way ahead, but still visible), but eventually lost them. (Keep in mind this is a 20-25 minutes walk back to the hotel and then another 15-20 minutes walk to the Real Palacio… if you know where you’re going) We later ran into Wats and Laura. With our mediocre Spanish and the huge crowded vastness of Madrid… good times, good times.
(3) Real Palacio (Royal Palace)
After being completely LEFT BEHIND at the Museo de Prado, we finally made it to the Real Palacio. Sarah, Laura and I didn’t even want to be with the group any more (they left us first! jk… we just didn’t feel like listening to stories in Spanish… we just wanted to look around and talk and comment amongst ourselves), so we purposefully fell behind to admire the palace decorations. Omgsh… the walls… were layered with embroidered fabric (I guess technically we aren’t supposed to touch it, but it was amazing…). The chandeliers, painted ceilings, curtains, tables, spoons, bowls…. everything was beaUUUUtimous! I just wanted wished the guard rails weren’t around. I had the biggest urge to just run through the palace, as if I were a kid back in 1802 without a care in the world.
We weren’t allowed to take pictures inside the palace, but here’s a couple on the outside ^_^.

(from left to right: me, Wats, Laura, Walsh)
(4) I FINALLY HAVE SOME EUROS!
It cost me $65 to get $40 in euros. Fun stuff. On the bright side, they’re so pretty! ;P
(5) HELADO!!!
So after a LOT of walking, Sarah and I managed to find el helado place. Until maybe I try mint chocolate chip gelado, mint chocolate chip ice cream is still the best. YUM!
(6) Riot in the Streets!
We walked by a HUGE group of protesters today (they took up an entire width of a big street!)… there were big paper signs, screaming people, the police, news cameras… it was craziness.
(7) Dinner
Sarah, Sarah (Both Sarah W’s… Watson and Walsh… …. maybe I’ll give them nicknames… Wats and Walsh), Laura, and I went to this little restaurant called Cafe & Te. It was pretty cool. It served sandwiches, pasta, pizza, it had a bar… it was actually pretty random. I ordered a sandwich and a glass of sangria. I was halfway done with my drink when the other girls got their pastas. It took over 20 minutes longer than the other girls to get my food, because apparently they ran out of the materials to make a ham and cheese sandwich. Therefore, to eat dinner, I ordered a more expensive ham and cheese sandwich (different type of bread). *sighs * Overall, the meal wasn’t to bad. I have a feeling I’m going to be broke by the time I get back to the states though…
(8) Night-Time Activities
I was planning to go out with the girls, but eventually broke and decided that I was to sick to go out *tear tear, sniffle sniffle *
(9) I miss my John… <333
Yes, the First Pics I Took in Spain (After a Whole Day) Were in Front of My Hotel Window

I <3 MY ROOMMATE SARAH!!!!!!

Yeah…. there was nothing out that window ;P
MORE PICTURES TO COME!
Random Quirks About Spain (Bathroom details only pertaining to hotel I’m staying at… so far)
(1) I totally love the shower… even though you can remove the nosel… it looks like a bath, but you can only take a shower, and it only has half a glass cover that’s completely clear… so it feels like your completely naked to anyone who just accidently walks into the bathroom while you’re in the shower (which could happen b/c there’s no way to lock the bathroom door).
(2) You pull a round nob located in the center of the panel behind the toilet upwards to flush. It actually took me a little bit to figure that one out ;P
(3) Europe has a lot of those ugly bull dogs. … probably because only small dogs are allowed or could fit in the small apartments that most people live in.
(4) A lot of people smoke cigars (not usually cigaettes… cigars) anywhere at any point during the day. Same goes for drinking alchohol.
(5) The street signs are pretty pictures on the side of buildings at cross sections… not nice bold signs that scream “look at me!” like in the US.
(7) De Policia wear uniforms with bright neon green patches. My sister KP would like that one ;P.
Spain_Day 1: In Spain, Disgustingly Ill, & Pathetically Homesick

(1)BUNNY IS SOOOOOOO CUTE!!
My friend Sarah is helping baby-sit her friend Matt’s rabbit (named Bunny) for a little bit, and I got to see her for a little bit while waiting to go to the airport. It’s SOOOoooo cute! And soft! And Fun! And and and… I want a rabbit! ^_^

(2) I’m Never Trusting Airplane Meals… EVER Again
11.5 hours of in the air on a plane + a mediocre meal + bumpy bus rides + seasonal allergies = a completely miserable first day. I mean, hugging the toilet doesn’t exactly = a good thing… Ever. *saddness * I mean, I couldn’t even sight-see off of the bus as we made out way threw the middle of Madrid. I was to busy trying to clear my vision and trying not to throw up. (Beautiful image, I know)
(3) Old Man on Plane was Pretty Cool; the World Needs More People Like Him
The older man sitting next to me tried to stay chatty. I mean, sure there were times where I wished he would just shut up, but he was such a sweat old guy. He gave me all kinds of study abroad tips, what to eat and what not to eat, and a bunch of random other.
(4) Did I Mention That 11.5 Hours in a Place completely and Totally Sucks!???!!!???
Well it does. 2 hours East to Dallas and then 9.5 hours back East to Madrid. Ridiculous??? I think so. And sleeping on the plane?? I think I got maybe 2 hours of sleep that night. SOOOOOOooooo Tired. Jet lag sucks.
(5) Dinner with the Group Once on Solid Ground was Pretty Good… SO Much Food!!! Yum (Yeah, I eventually got my appetite back ;P)
Omg, they gave us SOOOO much food!! Thank goodness it was free this time. … All kinds of Spanish dishes that I have no idea what they’re called. Although, despite the fact that they served it to me with a love moth just sitting on my plate next to my cake (a friend Jeff got it off for me), the dessert (yes, I would remember the dessert) was MUY delicioso! It was a layered moose thing with an orange layer on top… DEEEEELIcious.
(6) I Miss my John
I would love nothing more right now than to jump into that strong, warm embrace, a place where to me is more home than any city, state, or country could ever be.
